Another great vintage song from The Corrie Folk Trio (Roy Williamson, Bill Smith, Ronnie Browne).... This was quite a historical landmark song for the Corrie Folk Trio-----As the story goes----- Rivonia was recorded at the request of Hamish Henderson of The School of Scottish Studies in 1968. Hamish Henderson wrote the song to the tune of "Viva La Quinzieme Brigada" the marching song of the international brigade that fought against fascism & Franco during the Spanish civil war 1936-39. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned on Robben Island and the idea was to get a copy of the song to him. Apparently they succeeded and word was received back that he had heard it......Great historical story it is!
This song is taken from the CD the "Hamish Henderson Tribute Album---A' The Bairns O Adam., which is available from Greetrax records, Scotland. All receipts from Hamish's tribute CD go to his wife, Katzel.
