First flight of the Flyfly (hobby topgun) F100 Super Sabre and Lambert Kolibri P20 turbine. First flight at LADMAS site in Halsall, a nice level and open site but a bit too much surface roughness for the lightweight Flyfly undercarriage. During take off one main leg is dislodged and as it collapses the tail of one bomb is broken off but it still gets away. While i'm thinking about how best to set it down, the thirstier than expected P20 drains the tank in under 5 mins and i end up heading down wind and towards a drainage ditch. The F100 just about manages a U turn before hitting the deck. Despite the loud arrival there was no real damage and it was all back togther in the evening. Extra stiffening plates were added around the u/c mounting points and i guess i'm in the market for a bigger tank. Please comment/rate - thanks

  • I actually have the T15 (was called T32) and the T25 (15N and 25N thrust). It all depends on what you want to put them in, The T15/T20 is great for Twinjet, funjet, pterodactyl, Twister and generally most 70mm edf's. The T25 gives scary performance in small models and works well in 90mm edf's (Flyfly models, Starfire, Sapac etc) Hope that helps. Regards Neil

  • How fast is it?

  • @chiavernwei no figures yet but i hope to measure it next week - not very fast is the answer! but my new canard delta looks set to top 200mph - some video of that soon regards Neil

  • Great job, you've built something quite unique. I believe that this F100 is bigger and heavier than your MB339. Perhaps we overestimated the power and efficiency of the P20. The F100 seemed heavy and pregnant at take-off, but seemed to have good speed in level flight. The P20 in a twister with less weight, ie. reinforcements would rock! Nice build and good show!!!

  • I used the flyfly legs pretty much as they arrived, later that evening i found the wheel that ripped off on takeoff was jammed on the axle (but that could have been due to the crash landing) The front wheel axle which is just a bolt had also wound itself tight and jammed the wheel one one side. All cured now but i think i was taking off with the brakes jammed on from half way down the strip! I just got delivery today of a delta with canards (pterodactyl) - that should really shift!

  • @TrueNumbers if you listen to the sound, the engine flamed out in the turn. It was too close to stall speed when the engine quit for a decent landing.

  • Why didnt you keep going straight to land? looked like you had plenty of room. Please reply.
