@ea6b607 that's not entirely accurate. The silencer part is ( you just need an ATF form 4 and some other junk). But they do make .223 subsonic. It generally isn't recommended for use in most baffled suppressors (which is presumably all of them for a 5.56) because they can tumble and hit the baffle...ruining your day. Also they generally won't cycle the weapon very well (as I've heard, never tried through an AR). I agree that, for the effort, .22lr is a better choice.

Cool. And to make things straight you do not need a class 3 to own a silencer just got to fill out the forms for the BATFE and pay the tax stamp and wait a couple months. Also they don't make subsonic 556/223 as then your are better off using a 22 since the subsonic 22 ammo is the same weight and caliber.

I don't think it's a 223 Rem (= 5.56 NATO) even in subsonic... It's probably a 22LR subsonic cause it sounds like that...
