Unlike Spock, Data is incapable of emotion. He does not hide them, in fact he tries to imitate the proper look of emotions for appropriate situations... at least until the series ended and the first movie, "Generations", came out. He then received his emotion chip and kept it for the next 3 movies until his death.

It is obvious that his character was meant to be a parallel for the character of Spock in the original series, just remember they aren't the same.

It is said Data is emotionless... It is said he just copied the behavior of humans. I don't think so. It was said he can't feel emotions, and this is why he thought he could't. I love the series and films, but I hate Nemesis. Data is stil alive for me too, not because he is fictional, not because I haven't seen the film, but because I know there are an alternate future where he lives his life. This is one of the beauties of the ST.

datda may not hae "human " emotions but he expresses himself and his "feelings" in a android like way. this is broght to light in the spisode "brothers" when he tells his father Soong that he " can not" grive for him and his father says " you will... in your own way". i belive the tragity of data is that he wants human emotions instead of embraceing his own. but i also belive that in this way he is more human then he belived because like a humans, he wanted deeply what he did not have.

I think Data was more emotional, silly, and child-like than any of us could hope to be. Thanks to Brent Spinner (and the writers of TNG) who gave us such a multi-layered character.
