im sorry but i am very confused on the d before e. you said the e is stressed what do you mean?

in some areas of those states only. In Porto Alegre, its cidadji (like in the rest of Brazil). In the west and in the Serra, is cidad"ê".

Regarding words such as "cidade", if you go to southern states such as Paraná, Santa Catarina, or Rio Grande do Sul, you'll find that the pronounciation is exactly the same as it would be in the"cadê".
Bem, seus vídeos são ótimos! Passar conhecimento é sempre bom. Parabéns!

@languagenow I teach Portuguese to private students, some of them in different enterprises here in BA. You re welcome to come to Buenos Aires and also learn Spanish here. You won t find it so hard with your excellent Portuguese, you have to take advantage of that! Best regards and keep on uploading and helping so many people with your tutorials!
Another great video, Jason. I'd like to add just a couple of notes. The umlaut (we call it "trema" in Portuguese) has been suppressed, so now you spell cinquenta and not cinqüenta, although "aguentar" is an exception to the rule, and never had a trema.
Regarding the unstressed "de" phoneme, you do find people in Brazil who palatalize it, pronouncing for example "depois" as djeepois.
