@Bandtrip50 I agree. She was a favorite of mine since "Old Yeller." She's wonderful in "Claudia" w/ Robert Young.

@ChicagoTyme "Thanks for sharing your thoughts on enjoying things from our childhood.

One of my favorite movies of all time!!!

Arthur Kennedy who played Dorothy McGuire's alcoholic husband in the movie was a wonderful and talented actor. He should have had more recognition for his work. The way he got Constance Ford's character Helen's number, and did his best to needle her, was a riot.

The kids are better off-being with people who truly love each other and show their kids wha true love is. When that idiot has the doctor there after Sandra Dee comes in makes me sick. That first step to happiness is going to the hardest one to take. But once you do, how great if feels to get that 'marroon' ' off your back and out of your life . I 'd run so fast away there would be a cloud of dust so big even the roadrunner would get passed up!

Yes, when you age, it's the older couple you identify with. I feel for them both because they married such horrible spouses. I relate to Dorothy McGuire's charactor becuase I too, married for the wrong reasons. Th turmoil of after living with this drunk and then years later you meet your soulmate, but you cannot do anything because you have morals, and a child. These people can't cheat, but in reality it is they who have been cheated on by their miserable spouses. I say go for it!
Dorothy McGuire was one of the greatest American actresses we ever had!
A very beautiful woman even to the end.

@LorreB Thank you! Why is it when you grow up, people automatically think your supposed to leave behind movies or tv shows that once made you happy and enjoy them?! Your never too old! Not even for Disney. My daddy is in his 70's, and he still enjoys watching movies he enjoyed from his childhood. So if he has no shame in that, then neither do I. And I'm only 28. I've never seen this movie "A Summer Place", but I want to. I came across it accidentally because of the theme song. Its so beautiful.
