'this event is only significant from the Earth's point of view' ok - we're on this planet - isnt that the point? This alignment was predicted thousands of years ago by people without the aid of telescopes and computer programs - that's the thing to wonder at - and whatever happens on this date will happen regardless of our opinions

If you care to notice Kaku says the solar activity in 2012 WILL BE greater by a rate of 20. Then later says it COULD BE. The latter is correct, he simply misspoke in his first statement and it has some people worried. Fact of the matter being the only thing in danger is satellites and power grids. According to NASA's NAI Senior Scientist David Morrison because of solar wind, earths magnetosphere coupled with our thick atmosphere we " personally " are in no danger.

A dew days ago, scientist Dr. Michio Kaku told Fox news, and I quote, "we scientists made a mistake, the sun will shift pole around 2012 causing danger for earth". So? I think he is a respected person in his branch. Don't you think? You can find the clip here on youtube.
