The Heard Museum and American Express present Connecting Communities™.
Arizona is a vast state with spectacular landscapes that 22 tribal nations call home. Each of these tribal nations is distinct, with its own language and cultural tradition. However, an important sentiment that all communities share is a deep respect for the land and its bounty.

Home is very a important concept to Arizona's Native people so we decided to take our visitors to places that Native people call home. With support from American Express, we will be working over the next several months to produce short videos that provide a window to each of Arizona's tribal communities.

Good Day, thanks for your comments. As to fusion01wp's comments, we didn't "own" land as such but distinct communities did lay claim to certain lands, groves of trees, etc. We actually had a pretty good system of denoting which lands were controlled and cared for by which bands of people, for example where I come from, certain bands had the rights to certain watersheds, along which they would move from summer to winter. This assured equal distribution of the rich bounty of Mother Earth to all.

'Owners' - a very Eurocentric perspective. Just noticed I used that term: to the Indians, no-one really 'owned' it, right? It was for everyone to work together upon :)

Just watched a 5 part doc on the difficulties the Native Indians have faced sinced the Mayflower and the white man arrived. Pleased this reclaimed land which housed a fort was rightfully returned to the owners :)

I am a White Mountain Apache living in Oklahoma. This video makes me miss my home in a good way. Can't wait to go back home.
