Chevalier's enormous charm and personal magnetism soon made the Frenchman a star with American audiences after his arrival in Hollywood.

"Louise" was a show-stopping number from the 1929 film, "The Innocents of Paris"...Paramount's first musical.

LOUISE
(Words by Leo Robin
Music by Richard A. Whiting)

Wonderful! Oh, it's wonderful
To be in love with you.
Beautiful! You're so beautiful,
You haunt me all day through.

Every little breeze seems to whisper "Louise."
Birds in the trees seem to twitter "Louise."
Each little rose
Tells me it knows I love you, love you.

Every little beat that I feel in my heart,
Seems to repeat, What I felt from the start,
Each little sigh
Tells me that I adore you, Louise.

Just to see and hear you
Brings joy I never knew.
But to be so near you,
Thrills me through and through.

Anyone can see why I wanted your kiss,
It had to be But the wonder is this:
Can it be true,
Someone like you Could love me, Louise?

  • Charming song by the inimitable Maurice.

  • Chevalier was indeed one-of-a-kind...not a bel canto singer but what incredible spirit!

    Best,

    -RR

  • I was introduced to this song, through watching Allo Allo, my favourite Sitcom.

  • @f00kingalah Ride on!!! big respect goin out to ya from England! Keep the peace and that!!!! all those ppl who slate your music taste would have liked this music if they grew up at the time... they just bein ignorant plus pack mentality! U will grow strong and they will all of a sudden fall down when they are alone and dont have their mates to hold them up ;)

  • I fell in love with this song when i heard it I love early 1900's french music, I'm a 17 year old skinhead girl with 38 piercings and tattoo's and I get the piss taken out of me for my music style!!

Yet this is one of my favorite songs, sorry that I have amazing taste in music!!

This is so genuine :) its beautiful.

I see girls as beautiful not 'fit' or 'hot' <3

  • This song is in a book I'm reading! This song is so adorable!

  • @Zipperty SAME, been looking for this for ages! thanks very much :)

  • Good moaning, onywan?

  • Makes me really sad that 'love' songs these days don't really express love. They express a girl having a nice arse or a nice rack, not a BEAUTIFUL girl with a pretty face and personality. Girls are just seen as SEXY and HOT these days.. Never beautiful.

  • The good old days...Please bring them back

  • ITS PEPE LEPEU X D (seriously it is)

  • @Zipperty

Me too.... I laughed so hard at Officer Crabtree's singing!
