I was watching Diademy's video: Did Essence Magazine Just Diss Youtube Vloggers?
diademy's video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmsG-iTU9bA

When I received this month's issue with Queen Latifah on the cover, I only glanced through it and skimmed the referenced article looking for a mention of YouTube vloggers. I only saw mention of an Atlanta based stylist and Carol's Daughter creator Lisa Price. I instantly knew that the angle was commercial proprieters. During my skim, I did not see the reference to dismiss YouTube advice. But when I went back to READ the article, I saw it!

I had to make a video response. Basically the @Essence article gives tips to natural hair transitioners. The "experts" give their advice and attempt to steer transitioners to sites other than YouTube. They didn't "diss" YouTube vloggers but they didn't give us any credit for being knowedgeable. No one can "Jim Jones" me into only seeing what THEY want me to see. Mind control will NEVER work on me! I am going to always trust my own judgment and discernment. And you will too! No one can influence you to purchase anything you don't want.

My Hair
I am working on a straightening my hair video. Splinta24 straightened her hair.

I want to do it too before the 2011 is over. My hair will be kinky when 2012 rolls in. But when I took my hair down, it was totally cute and begging me NOT to straighten it! I had shampooed and conditioned and used Chi Straight Guard on one side and Twisted Sista Blow Drying Creme on the other. I'm always experimenting! Now, I don't know if I will flat iron it or not!

  • I love your video! I agree 100% with everything you said. I came to YT looking for people who had or is experiencing some of the same issues I had/was experiencing with my natural hair and my intent in making videos was born out of me wanting to share my journey as others had/have done for me. Connecting with other women on YT is no different than connecting from some other websites as Essence suggested. Thanks for the video!

  • @katty40ify No one can change our perceptions. I think it's all become propaganda to steer people to their sites and away from YouTube. But like so many have said, they have arrived to the party too late and we are already here sharing and interacting. I appreciate your feedback.

  • You said it very well. We share what we know and glean what is appropriate for our hair. You made an excellent point about trusting. Who will I trust - someone in an article that I don't know from Adam (and who's probably going to veer me towards buying products that will benefit their change purse in some way) or someone I've watched day in and day out and seen their progress (often over a period of several years). It's a no brainer for me. :)

  • @anamneses28 Thank you! I like to keep my head on straight when it comes to all this. It can become too much at times.

  • Great Video Lady. I just received my December issue of Ebony today and I am getting ready to read it now. I do agree that the Vloggers are the ones who have helped me the most and I will never give up on watching YT when it comes to my hair. You made great points. God bless Chica :)

  • @11zeaky Can't wait to hear your input.

  • Thanks for the response @creativelady...no i dont have a video. unlike you lovely ladies on the yt i feel i am not very photogenic...lol...i will think about making some vids in the future tho. my time is spread out among so many things right now that i dont feel i could dedicate myself fully to the endeavor. but like is said i am considering it. again thanks for the response, i love your hair and keep up the good work girl...i love your vids.

  • @HelpMamaRemote LOL! It was too good to flat iron! Maybe the next time I'll do it!

  • @napturallycurly I appreciate your input on this. This topic has created tons of buzz! I just hope we don't lose focus and bash Essence for an individual article. This can be Essence's ability to open their pages for more input by those who are doing it!

  • I think you said it best when you said they should have given credit. A lot of people (you included) who have been natural for awhile were a big part of my inspiration to go natural. I watched so many vids from "seasoned" naturals while transitioning but I don't remember getting much help from Essence articles. So they need to give credit where credit is due.

  • LOL at why you have to be good hair today? LOL
