FoamBot built of CKBot robot modules builds a snake robot which can move with both an inchworm gait and a side-winding gait. Details of snake robot synthesis task from IROS 2011 presentation of Revzen, Bhoite, Macasieb and Yim.

  • Seem like it could have been better without foams and use hook/latches/magnet to attach each little robots together. I know other team has done that in the past.

    Using foam is such a messy method there.

  • Yeah, it's messy, but a proof of concept. Very space friendly. Also note that the spray was operated manually. I picture a later model being much more automated and much less messy (and probably faster). I kind of like the idea of sending a builder-bot to mars to make other robots to-order, has potential.
