This company got a lot of bad press when it first came out with those commercials where the CEO was broadcasting his real social security number. Many people could not believe it was true. May were asking is there a LifeLock scam? It didn't help that there was an FTC investigation. That only increased rumors of a LifeLock scam.

This is part of overview about the company LockLock. But this clip today is specifically address rumors that continue to circulate on the internet about some possibility of a LifeLock Scam.

First of all if you are doing a Google search for the term LifeLock Scam, then no doubt you already know that identity theft is a serious problem in the U.S. and it is growing every year. The FTC estimates are about 9 million people a year.

So you already know you definitely need to do something like getting a credit monitoring service. And you are probably considering LifeLock but you keep hearing rumors about some sort of LifeLock Scam.

This all started a few years back during a pretty aggressive adverting campaign by LifeLock. I'm a lot of people remember those TV and Radio commercial where the CEO of the company Todd Davis was giving out his real social security number and practically daring people to try and steal it.

This is really at the heart of those rumors about a LifeLock scam. Because people could not believe this person would be bold enough (which is putting it politely) to actually broadcast his real social security number to millions of people. Then on top of that he was riding around across the country with his social security number plastered on the side of a truck.

People believe this had to be some sort of advertising gimmick or trick. In other words a scam. The advertising work because people may not have heard of LifeLock before but they definitely knew the name after that.

It got everybody's attention including the Federal Trade Commission. They did not like him broadcasting is social. They didn't like that the commercials seem to suggest that if you signed up with LifeLock then identity theft would definitely not happen to you. At the time identity theft protection services was kind of new. LifeLock was kind of new and they were already claiming to be number #1. The FTC didn't like that.

So the bottom line is that there was an FTC investigation. LifeLock paid a fine and agreed to stop those commercials. But it was determine that he really was using his real social security number.

So this was not a scam. And there never was a LifeLock scam. But it is the source of why these rumors continue to circulate. If you are considering trying LifeLock services you do not have to be concerned about a LifeLock scam and you should not let these untrue rumors stop you.

Life lock is a scam. Why did they have to pay $12 million if they did nothing wrong? On top of that lifelock was not securing their customers' data via encryption (either on their computers or in transit), the Ceo's identity was stolen 12 times, and the FTC found out that they didn't even apply critical security patches to keep unauthorized hackers out of their own network. They couldn't even protect themselves, much less anyone else.

    Oh yeah, Vince, troll harder.
