Daryl Hannah, James Hansen and Ken Hechler arrested at West Virginia protest June 23, 2009

West Virginians concerned about mountaintop removal coal mining and an immense toxic coal sludge dam above a local elementary school confront angry coal miners employed by out-of-state Massey Energy of Richmond, Virginia. 30 citizens were arrested for peaceful protest against the coal mine, including actress Daryl Hannah, NASA Climatologist James Hanson and former West Virginia Congressman Ken Hechler.

that is my old school and 3 kids died there and it was accidental... and outside the school Daryl Hannah used a helicopter to get all the way from Cali to WV .... that is just stupid for a treehugger to do...i am a coal miner so forget them my dad my pawpaw my neigbors my uncles aunts great grandmaw and alot of others were coal miners all working for Massey energy P*** on TREEHUGGERS!!!

Lies, Lies, Lies, wow excuse me for saying that. Natural flooding doesn't occur because of mining. I remember a lot of storms coming I remember a lot of the U.S.A. flooding. I'm taking a wild guess here its because of Mountain Top Removal. People in California have flooding lets blame it on MTR. Daryl Hannah god take her back to Cali. @gholstein80 - According to the Federal Office of Surface Mining, in a healthy mature forest trees will absorb 75 percent of the rainfall. Then there is the duff ont he forest floor, mosses etc that soak up the rain like a sponge. With mt top removal, the land is compacted by bulldozers so that it is about as absorbent as a parking lot. Unfortunately, people live below these giant mine sites and they are getting flash-flooded repeatedly.

Well I am very sorry but I completely disagree. You didn't make a very good point. It still soaks the rain in until you prove me wrong with some kind of scientific evidence you need to stop guessing here. For one my whole family has worked mine jobs and lived here in Boone county. They have lived long healthy lives. You are not making a good cause here go to where pollution is much higher and at much higher level go to where flooding is much higher.
