Along with Armstrong, Parker and Tatum...Bechet was a stone cold master!

While the picture above depicts him on the clarinet, the classic solo starting at 0:57 is a duet with Albert Nicholas with Sidney on the soprano sax, then Albert alone for a bit. The pic of Sidney shows an Albert system clarinet, definitely a nasty horn to play.

I think this is one of the best renderings of the classic clarinet solo on High Society. Albert Nicholas' smooth and fluid sound is unsurpassed. What a pity there is no recorded version by Jimmie Noone.

Somebody tell me, was he playing the clarinet or soprano sax part on this? I know he played both at times, and both have solos in this.
The commentators to this video sure are knowledgeable with regards to Bechet and classic Jazz.

Sorry for the misleading picture of Sidney. I tend to use one photo of each of the jazz artists I upload. I ought to have better sense and match their portraits with the musical context of the uploaded pieces.
