This is a demo of the song "Breakdown", recorded while Lynott was still in Grand Slam sometime in 1984. This is a longer and different version than the one found on the "Studio Sessions" disc. Stupidly, someone used a program to remove excess sound and I think they removed a bit too much...the keyboards sound like a damn circus. It gets better by the end. There is also a brief skip at about the 1:18 mark, but this is a small flaw in an otherwise great version of the song. Lynott also did a version of this song with Junior Giscombe, but that has not turned up in the hands of those willing to share it...

Enjoy!

  • But that is the point most of us want everyone that was a fan to be able to enjoy the rest and the best of the music. Most of the songs you have shared would not be out there otherwise and would not now be loved by those who had never heard them. It's just not good for people to put down those who have helped these songs to surface. Of course the chances of getting everything are slim but does that mean you shouldn't try?

  • For the record, I didn't put anyone down until certain individuals came over here and berated me for posting tracks which they felt (wrongly) that I didn't have the authority to post. There's a lot more that went on that you don't quite know about. I might come across as bashing an entire group, but my comments are usually directed toward certain individuals, and those "in the know" know who they are directed at.

  • Likewise, I have a lot of stuff myself that isn't posted here. I keep plenty of stuff for potential trading, just not a huge majority of it. I'm not calling you a wanker, and I don't think "dontplayaround" is directly referring to you either. There should be a better balance though...I think more stuff can been shared with the general public than what's being allowed without it being a great detriment to the overall goal. Thanks for the level-headed discussion. It was refreshing.

  • The trouble with the view of just releasing it to everyone is that those that hold a large part will only trade, you can only trade rare tracks while they remain rare. Nothing to trade means those other remaining songs will always remain lost as those that hold them still just don't think along the same lines as the majority of fans.

It's just a sad fact and I wish it wasn't so as there is still so much great work by the man out there and now only in the hands of a few people.

  • But it's like that with any band. There's always those couple discs that remain out of circulation. I already gave one example. Despite a person's best efforts to get 100% of all known material out in the public domain, there's always that 1 guy that's going to say..."Ha, I have this one song and no one else has it...nah-na-nah-na-nah-na!"...and he won't trade it for anything. Whoopie shit for him. Let him sit alone and keep it to himself while everyone else enjoys the rest of the music.

  • I'm just saying I'd like to see an increased amount of stuff on the net. Other bands have a lot of stuff on the net...an a band of Lizzy's caliber should have more stuff. There's a lot of petty infighting going on between certain individuals, which is why a lot of stuff isn't readily available. I mean all these tracks were around 22 years ago...if the trading didn't work then to get the remainder...then how is it going to work now?

  • So far all the demos I have heard had potential to be legendary rock songs, more so than they already are. It seems the quality of Phil's writing was still climbing and had no intetion of plateuing, let alone peaking.

  • Fuck the arguing thanks for posting another unheard gem amigo.

  • this song kinda grows on you. with the right kind of production and promotion, it might have emerged as a minor masterpiece, one of the "anthemic" songs of the eighties.

  • If i was a producer i would refine this masterpiece for the world to see what phil lynot was about.Phil was a master class with a master plan every breath and every minute of his life...RIP BROTHER

  • Quote..

I am one of those 'wankers' who has a vast collection of unreleased songs

    End.

Well I don't understand. Why can't you let us (the fans) have them? What are the reasons?
