Great Paul
Most people are complaining about the contracts and the price for broadband. I don't see anyone attacking the value and quality of the iPhone. Wifi is taking this contract costs away, not true?

I'm going to check the real phone for the bug I found while we were testing/developing some apps for it. I'll report soon on that!

not quite true .. it IS Vodarape - but thats the price of mobile broadband in NZ. In the second of these video's "Lucy" states she chose the $80 a month plan .. for people who already have a Voda account you can opt for a $50 a month plan .. this is on top of your current payment.

do you have a wifi router @ home/work? I strongly suggest getting one for both locations (they're quite cheap these days) - that will save a tremendous amount of traffic.
depending on how much you use web-browsing the cheapest plan is fine for email and the odd web page ... for satellite maps and so forth watching youtube videos the biggest plan is probably just enough.

I just read a story about the iPhone 3g on the xtra homepage and it said that it does cost $250 on contract. Are there any that come out on prepay or are they all on contract?

You can buy outright for $979 and you don't really need a contract to use the phone but since many of the functions are built to use a data carrier of some sort you need something to take care of the cost. The "casual" rate for pre-pay is an absurd $1 for 10MB .. and $1 for every MB over that!
So I can see why Voda is kind of forcing people toward a rate plan. The thing is the lock in. 2 years is like a jail sentence.
In fact thats the whole nature of Apple's products not freedom but "capture".
