Imagine your toddlers had wings and beaks, thats pretty much what having a parrot is like, they kind of have to be watched at all times and can be mischievious.
Small children and a large parrot are probably not a good mix, a bad bite to a child would probably require stiches.
Small children have a habbit of poking and proding, a parrots beak is meant to crack hard nuts and seeds, fingers are soft get the picture, however i agree with pj01wilson, start small, something like a budgie/cockatiel.

how can you aford one arnt they 14gs

If you have kids I'd suggest a small parrot like a budgie or a lovebird, they can be funny and sweet, also they're not very expensive. another tiny parrot I love is the senegal. Large parrots are more expensive and may bite.
Also, I am worried about my toddlers. Are parrots generally friendly with small children? Would they bite fingers ect.... We may get a simple, smaller bird...

Thanks for watching Ollie. As a general rule, small children and small birds are usually a good match. It is best to expose children to smaller birds and then move up to the larger birds if the kids are responsible in caring for them. Smaller birds have smaller bites and generally make smaller messes although they can be quite messy also. The larger breeds should only be considered by older serious adults as they require alot of attention and could seriously injury a small child.

Thanks, he is very special. Oliver is a rescue bird and had been badly abused. He has a broken wing that was not tended too and he is blind in the left eye. He has come a long way and is very loving toward his momma. Everyone else beware. Thanks for your comment.
