Sierra Madre Expedition! The Mexican Outback!!!

We booked a Sierra Madre Expedition from our Sunwing representative at the Palladium Vallarta, the tour is operated by Vallarta Adventures and I highly recommend it. First it gives you a glimpse of some of the small towns that still surround Puerto Vallarta dependent on agriculture, then we meander up into the Sierra Madre Mountains.
My image of the Sierra Madre Mountains was shaped by old western movies so it came as a surprise to see that the mountains are not only rugged but completely covered by jungle. Spectacular beauty unfolds as the tour winds it's way ever higher.
Seeing the rugged nature of the area I can not imagine life here 100 or more years ago.

Looked it up.

The Copper Canyon is a group of canyons consisting of 6 distinct canyons in the Sierra Tarahumara in the southwestern part of the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. The overall canyon system is larger and portions are deeper than the Grand Canyon. The canyons were formed by six rivers which drain the western side of the Sierra Tarahumara (a part of the Sierra Madre Occidental). The walls of the canyon are a copper/green color which is where the name originates.

Did the C.C. in 06 one of the most amazing train trips a person can take .... spent a few days in Creel great place to stay and explore the canyon
