Spring is in the air, and this benefit for the American Lung Association of Nevada, is all about improving the quality of the air we breath, while at the same time, helping to assure we all have healthy lungs with which to breath that spring air.

Held at the Las Vegas Mandarin Oriental hotel the 'Live Colorfully' spring fashion show and fundraiser was presented by designer Kate Spade New York.

We are just so thrilled to have over 80 items for our silent auction from wonderful businesses throughout the Las Vegas area who have donated," said event Co-chair, Tami Corbin.

This is the group's first attempt at going solo, putting on the entire fashion show by without any outside help. Corbin said that although this is the first annual fashion show, there will be of many more to come and that the committee members are already looking forward to next year.

Native Nevadan and television star, Matthew Gray Gubler from the hit CBS series, Criminal Minds made a special guest appearance and held an impromptu Q & A session for fans during the luncheon. Matthew also just happens to be the son of Marilyn Gubler, the 'Live Colorfully' Event Chair and American Lung Association in Nevada Board Member.

Matthew Gubler laughed with the audience when his mother raised her hand to ask a question saying, "Mom, you could have asked me that at home." He also made fun of himself when he couldn't make out his own 'chicken scratch' speech he was trying to read from a yellow legal pad. Gubler actually took time out to research the subject matter and was quite surprised at the information he found.

"I found out that smoking is the leading cause of statistics," mocked Gubler. "If you just do a Google search and type in smoking or lung cancer and you will be barraged with never-ending facts and numbers, like how 1 in every 3 Americans is affected by lung disease, how COPD [chronic obstructive pulmonary disease] is the 3rd leading cause of death and how if you get lung cancer the odds are 95% that you will die."

Gubler went on to mention that if those in the audience were anything like him, statistics cause him to glaze over. He went on to share one of his personal twitter messages sent after he tweeted about attending the lung association fundraiser.

"I typically receive a lot of tweets, but the response to my tweet about lung cancer was, like absolutely flabbergasting," said Gubler. "Which just reminds you how far reaching and serious a disease like lung cancer is."

Marilyn Gubler has been involved with the American Lung Association in Nevada for a number of years, motivated by the large numbers of people in Nevada afflicted with lung and breathing problems.

"All the money raised will go towards our programs," said Marilyn Gubler. "We have an asthma camp for children who have never been able to be outdoors and do vigorous activities, we lobby to try and cut down on all the ambient smoke problems and breathing, and we work with people who have COPD."

Raising over $50,000 the American Lung Association in Nevada has a strong commitment to fighting lung disease and bringing fresh air to Nevada. For more information contact the local offices at 702 431 6333 or visit the web at www.lungnevada.org/vegas
