Battle of the Worlds end

This movie illustrates the principles behind "science and society". The sci-fi genre aspect of the movie is very well taken care of by Claude Rains as Professor Benson whose superior acting brings up the whole cast.

Professor Benson says it is impossible for the stray planet to go into orbit. There must be a 'yet to be discovered third force' that triggers the stray planet into orbit. This turns out to be the electronic brain planted in the stray planet.

The United Commission has no choice but to blast the stray planet even though Professor Benson is still in that stray planet. This is the principle of equity -- the priority to save the masses instead of sacrificing or protecting a selected few.
