This is a recording of a recital by Smt M.S.Subbulakshmi & Smt Radha Viswanathan performed on Doordarshan. The programme was broadcast on 2nd October, 1985 (Gandhi Jayanti Day) from Trivandrum Doordarshan studios. They were accompanied by Sri Kandadevi S.Azhagiriswami on the violin, Sri Guruvayur Dorai on the mridangam and Sri T.H.Vinayakaram on the Ghatam. Smt M.S. continues the recital with a composition by Sri H.Yoganarasimham in Ranjani Raga, Adi Tala. This song was tuned by Sri Kadayanallur R.Venkataraman

An interesting anecdote connected with this song, is that Smt M.S. was not very satisfied with the rendition of the chittaswaras in this song. The next day after recording this, Smt M.S. and Sri Sadasivam went to Doordarshan office in chennai and asked if this could be re-recorded. It was only when the station director personally played the recording to the couple that they were convinced that they could proceed with the broadcast.

@paramparaa1916 One thing I see in all of M.S. Amma's recordings is how nicely I can hear the tanpura always that does so much to enhance the tonal beauty. But only you'd know how it was like up close.... By the way, I don't know what was "wrong" in the chittaswaram -- but what a standard of devotion.

By the way, I am again and again amazed at her voice even at 70 and even her last concert -- she must have had an iron sadhana regimen to keep her music the way it was. Right?
