Jazz musicians have a tendency to starve to death because of their purism and the purist cynics in 1966 probably caused Wes Montgomery's early demise. As Benson said'"''When Wes went commercial it was the only time i saw him eat well"'

CTI records gave employment to many great artists during it's time and CTI also created a special niche in music. There was still ALOT of musicianship on CTI records so i don't know where your ears are.

  • I can't fathom why some diss this music.

Some say 'u can't call it jazz''..well, YES, that's because the CTI era, even though u may hate it, marked the period of jazz FUSION...and it was a UNIQUE era.(never will be repeated) TODAY we'd be glad to see music like this.

Some say it had the musicians in straight jackets...listen to Benson's "Gentle Rain"and many other CTI sessions...does it sound restrained to you? Benson gave some his greatest solos on CTI records ( e.g. about Live @ Carnegie?)

  • this sounds like a tune on clifford the big red dog lol

  • Can anyone please send me the music sheet of this for flute?

  • joe tried and couldnt get tht goddamm monkey off his back

  • CTI was where many artists signed after they left Blue Note and before they signed with Columbia (or WB, as in George Benson's case) My first jazz LP's were on Columbia, and I liked the CTI stuff because it had more improvisation, and then I finally went back and found out about the Blue Note stuff.. now the CTI stuff seems like watered down "smooth" jazz... it may be Greed Taylor over produced commercial music, but you can still hear the incredible musicianship but it's hard to call it jazz

  • I have an Art Farmer version (also on CTI) that's better, with the composer arranging - it's faster and more intricate, but I like this version, too! Benson is tearin' it up & anything with Farrell on it makes me happy :)

  • Does anyone have any live footage of these two or was it just a studio album?

  • I take your point but it's so nice to heat this tune after all these years.

    RIP Joe Farrell...

    We all miss you...

  • I love George Benson and Joe Farrell...but I'm not crazy about this track. In typical "Greed Taylor" fashion, it's slick, commercial-sounding, over-produced, and there isn't enough blowing. I usually stay away from CTI stuff because it's a downer when great players seem to be wearing straight-jackets!
