Trouble in paradise. Marine debris and plastic pollution impact sea birds around the world. This video is of a necropsy of a Laysan Albatross chick on Green Island at Kure Atoll in Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. There were 306 pieces of plastics found inside the four-month-old chick, and the largest piece was over 6 inches long. Many plastics thrown away end up in the ocean, where they can spend decades floating, and do not degrade. These plastics are eaten by millions of seabirds every year, and are regurgitated to feed their young chicks for months. Plastics are found in most Albatross carcasses.
