mainly because detroit baseball hadn't been the same since the 1968 championship and 1984 was their first serious run for the title during that 16-year span

With Tiger Stadium now gone, the memory of what's been known as a "great opera house of a ballpark" lives on in this video. The whole state was behind that team, at a time when the Pistons were rebuilding, the Red Wings stunk, and the Lions were the Lions. There was nothing like watching the games on Channel 4 or hearing the wonderful Ernie Harwell and Paul Carey on WJR. And 25 years after that team, the Tigers are winning again. GO TIGERS!!!

When I grew up Detroit my favorite Tiger Memorey would have to be the 1987 pennant race when the Jays came to town up 1 game on the Motor City Kitties and they swept the series with the Saturday and Sunday games just being insane. Trammell won the Sat game in extra with a base hit and Larry Herndon won the Sunday game with a solo homer and Frank through the shutout. Best summer ever for me.

On Junn 22nd 1988, they played the Yankees in what was Billy Martins final game ever in which there was a Rain Delay and when he came out dancing, they crowd went nuts. They were in the pennant race with the Yanks and who knew they Gay Red Sox would come and win the division that year.

It sure brings back memories.. I was still in high school at that time! My mom still has The Detroit News paper when they won the 1984 world series. I miss those boys!
