as you can see the rpm needle dips down to about 500rpm.

  • The last time it was stock (N/A), I had a large hole in the exhaust before the cat and there were no problems with the revs dropping.

Since I had the problem I hav done the following:

Cleaned the throttle and the idle parts, changed the gasket for the TB, changed all the regular ign. parts including sparkplug wires.

I never touched the idle screw on the TB.

  • The problem solved it self the next time I installed the N/A stuff.

  • maybe change the MAF or clean the MAF wire element

  • that could be the problem.

It's currently turbo converted so at the moment I'm not using the MAF. But once I go back to N/A I will change the MAF and see if that solves anything.

  • I don't think so, I have checked it a couple of times. I took of the BAC and cleaned it and that improved it a bit.

  • Like what texasmaverick1983 said. Just adjust the idle screw to bring up the rpm.

  • my mazda did the same thing check the thottle body gasket i had those leakin

  • This is very interesting... Any Idea what component change solved it? Would you reckon it's the MAF? My Telstar FE-DOHC has the same problem ever since I've tranplanted the engine in. Mine's only ever been an NA though.

  • It could be a hole some where in your intake hose from the MAF to the throttle body. I had the same problem with my 91 mx6 LE. But it stayed down and would bob around 400 RPM so it probably is just his idle control.

  • all you have to do is turn a screw.

  • I have same problem on my mazda 323 1.6 doch(non turbo)avtomatic, and when you shrift from P to R RPM drop to 500 adn then its gos up

  • Idle Control Computer / Valve! I have the very same problem with my car! 89 / 90 MAZDA 626. If you see your RPM's go from 1000 down to 500, then its an issue with your idle control system. I suggest you take a flat-end of a screwdriver and slowly adjust the manual throttle till you bring it up to 1000. I did it and it works great.

  • mine does that to, and it has a rattle like that. It actually turned out to be the dipstick finding a resonance and making a loud rattle at about 2800 rpm.
