@dougsoutdoors Its been my experience that with round ball you pretty much have to get close to max load for it to have any real recoil. Now, when I was shooting the 370 grain MaxiHunter bullets. I loaded semi heavy (hunting) AND a rather heavy bullet when compared to the 179 grain round ball. That kicked a bit..

@ gravedigr12, I have a .50 cal flintlock with a hooked breach, it's a lyman product and I enjoy the hell out of it. I clean it with boiling water and butch's triple twill patches, works great, then I use some gunslick after the barrel is dry to ensure it doesn't rust. I use triple f black powder in mine so I have to clean it after every use.

I am getting a new muzzle loader next week and I never shot one do they have slot of recoil and by slot I mean more than a twelve gauge?

@dougsoutdoors It depends on bullet weight and powder charge. You can load it so there isn't a lot of recoil. I don't personally think they have much recoil, but everyone perceives and gets affected by it differently. The 245 gr bullets I shot with 95 grains has a little kick, but it also depends on what kind of 12G ammo you shoot. Birdshot or slugs. Recoil will be different with those out of a 12G too. Hard to say man, you'll have to shoot it and see :D

im new to muzzle loading what would you recomend to keep it clean a studys showd vasaline worked but id rather ask somone doing it also i hear there are better effects with cold water do you find this? and would you recomend rubbing alchahol to help get rid of moisture after drying it off from the water?

@gravedigr12 Soap and warm/hot water. If you want to help it dry out, stick the barrel in the oven on the lowest setting. Or let it air dry, the hot water makes the barrel warm, and help dry it out. Bore butter if you're concerned about rust in the bore, or any gun oil, but you'd have to clean it out again before you shoot so it won't get too gummed up. Bore butter works great on the outside too. Easy to use when the barrel is warm too. Depends on what you're shooting too...
