Sam Ruot is one of the "Lost Boys of Sudan" and part of the DOK Sudanese Community formed in 2002 to raise money to build a school in Southern Sudan.

This is Sam's Story.

Dok Sudanese Community Association (DSCA) is a non-profit organization (formerly known as DC) formed in 2002 by a few South Sudanese students..the majority Lost Boys who live in over 100 cities across the U.S. The organization is free from tribal and cultural differences which are viewed to be the cause of disunity in our communities.

DSCA has over 300 members across the U.S., Canada and Australia. The main goal of DSCA is to change Southern Sudan through "Education" by providing quality education from K-12 grade for all children. Mainly orphans, disabled, abused and abandoned children through supporting the relevant education and to build the desired infrastructure and supply education materials that are needed for education.

Lost Boys of Sudan is the name of an International Rescue Committee program to resettle refugee boys from Sudan to the Unites States. These Boys were displaced and/or orphaned during the Second Sudanese Civil War (1983-2005). About 2 million were killed in this Civil War.

In 2001, about 3,800 Lost Boys arrived in the United States where they are now scattered in about 100 cities, averaging about 100 per city. Halted after 9/11 for security reasons, the Program re-started in 2004, but Peace Talks were underway in Sudan, and so other refugee crises in other countries took priority. As of 2006, the largest population of Sudanese refugees in the United States is Omaha, Nebraska which hosts about 7,000 people.
