We have kept several types of dogs in the past, now we have had a pure bred bullie for years. He is extremely smart with bags of personality, doesn't eat out of trash bins. When I walk him he gets tons of love from strangers who just adore him. Not unlike any other business, there is indeed bad inbreeding going on but there are also reputable breeders out there. Hey, there are people who have more health problems than others, what you are going to do out that - tell them not to have children?

You keep comparing a dog to a designer handbag or a nice pair of shoes. A dog is living breathing being that feels pain, has the ability to suffer but also has the ability to love. Dogs, cats, etc are not things, they are creatures of nature and should not be "experimented" upon. All of this best of breed is crap. The best of breed is that which was created by nature through natural selection, not by a bunch of stupid English idiots.

@marick626 Whatever. They're uglier than purebred dogs and you can't brag about them like you can with purebred dogs. If you have a rare Borzoi or other breed equally as uncommon, that could make for a good conversation starter, but what can you say about a mutt? You can't brag that you imported it from this country or spent a few thousand dollars on it. It's like people preferring designer bags to generic, cheap ones.
