For some service businesses the number one expense for a field service company is payroll. Right now, in this economy you may be faced with the decision to layoff members of your staff. Cutting employees will work in the short term but may impact optimal service delivery to your customers the very core of your business. You may also run into challenges with diminishing morale and burn out for the current employees who need to pick up the extra work. Before laying off key skilled employees consider deploying a service management solution (like VaZing) that will help reduce unnecessary payroll costs. Here is a tip describing how a service management solution will help reduce payroll costs: Reduce the amount of time it takes to dispatch your jobs.

How long does it take to get your employees out into the field in the morning with their jobs? 20 minutes? 30 minutes? An hour or more? Lets say you have 5 employees and you pay them an average of $15 per hour. If it takes you 30 minutes to get them out the door in the morning that costs you $37.50 every day. Multiply by 250 days (the average number of working days) and you spend $9,375 in wasted payroll per year just to dispatch your jobs.

Devise a plan to get your employees out the door right away in the morning. In a perfect world dispatching your employees from their home will eliminate costly downtime. If you are unable to do this than make it a point to have your employees work orders ready for them when they get to the office. With a service management solution you should be able to print out route sheets or work orders with the click of a mouse.
