The outbreak of Swine Flu in the Western Hemisphere has raised the alarmbells in Europe and at the European Commisison's emergency response centre.
Androulla Vassiliou, Member of the EC in charge of Health, consulted this morning in Brussels with EU veterinary and health experts to discuss the possible threat posed by the swine flu outbreak.
The meeting took place in the operations room of the Health Directorate General of the European Commission where information in real time was collected from the 27 EU Member States.
We have to be extremely prudent in assessing the current situation in order to understand precisely the mechanism of transmission, to elevate the potential danger to the health of the citizens and the resources to treat patients, such as vaccines and antiviral, the Commissioner said before leaving the expert meeting.
Androulla Vassiliou was due to travel to Luxembourg later today to hold talks on the outbreak with the EU Foreign Ministers.
Tamiflu didn't help a 32 year old man who died following H1N1 infection in Saudi Arabia.
I worry about coming few months when Northern hemisphere will be afflicted by normal cold flu virus having similar symtoms as H1N1.
