Cyprus foreign minister speaks to EuroNews

In an exclusive interview with EuroNews, Cyprus foreign affairs minister Yiorgos Lillikas warns Ankara that a failure to honour its pledges over Cyprus could have serious consequences on EU accession talks. Cyprus remains a divided island. However, only the southern Greek half is recognised by the international community which refuses to acknowledge the northern half which was invaded by Turkish troops in 1974.
Turkish soldiers still patrol this territory. Cyprus has been an EU member since 2004. Ankara faces pressure from Brussels to open its ports and airports to ships and planes from Cyprus or face a possible breakdown in EU membership talks. Turkey...

  • oh please.. y do u transmit wrong info? its not just the "southern greek part", or what so ever u call it, international recognised, its the WHOLE ISLAND which is recognised as Republic of Cyprus and the turkish occupied part only regognized by Turkey of course who doesnt regognize the Republic of Cyprus (of course). Cypriots have the commons with greek nation but its wrong to introduce Cyprus "greek administrated", because it only sounds like its being administrated by Greece! its just wrong..

  • How can a country that occupiies european land illegally, wants to join the EU? EU accession negotiations with this country should should never succed under these contitions

    a golden lion supported by green olive branches... it shall be called the Cypriot... :)

    why hasnt anybody thought of creating a government similar to Switzerland, where there are no presidents, only a council?

    both sides are doomed to be separated from each other...

  • No Turkish withdrawal, no Turkish membership in EU. That's the American position, too.

  • We do have to be together without external forces upon us, but Turkey has been negative because it is the main external force.
