  • Sorry to burst your bubble one1one63:

Lene's music is NOT goth. Lene may have influenced the goth scene to some extent with her over the top appearance, but that's about it.

Lene's early music is considered NEW WAVE. Her 80s music is alternative pop, for lack of a better term. She recorded a song with Erasure a few years ago. That's hardly goth, you know...

  • Trust me..not goth at all... this is pure NEW WAVE!

  • What a brilliant song!

  • Everyone's an expert. The fact that everyone wants to argue that she's this or that genre label is evidence that she is ALL those things. Don't pigeonhole a genius.

Reminds me of when the Adolescents, who were one of the pioneers of punk, are referred to as emo, while emo is largely rejected as a form of punk by practically every 1st gen punk i know (of which i am one). It's all about perspective. That's the beauty of music. Lene was practically her own genre, as was Nina Hagen, etc. etc. etc.

  • @oramikleepunk Black Sabbath was THE example of a proto-Goth band. Did you ever see their first album cover? As for the term "Goth" I am familiar with the convulsions of exceptionalism and even elitism involved. My younger sister was one of the "first" and won some French literature award for her "Gothic" poetry. To me, Goth is a reference to early German tribes and architecture and cultural motifs from the medieval period, etc. Nothing to do with horror films, vamps, etc.

  • @deaddoc Goth is not a real label.Unlabeled goths just listened to Post-punk,and deathrock, and the bands from the batcave in the underground UK.I would never mix Black Sabbath with that.

  • @Homoholic Nothing is pure anything in pop music. Even classical music draws on earlier and even folk inspirations. New Wave included quite a spread of styles, including The Romones, The Cars, Punk bands, and Goth beginnings. Black Sabbath was making its pre-Goth music in 1971 and before! Doing screams for horror films, and such before this,... Goth music has morphed a great deal from its start. Lene is undoubtedly the mother of Goth music and style.

  • Don't be trying to deny the punk. It's there along with the new wave.

  • Lene's music now is very rare to find... I used to have this record when I was a kid... the last I could get was "march"... and later on nothing else, I knew she did more music, but I naver was able to gat it. =(
