Martine Watson Brownley, English professor and director of the Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry, describes Emory's "intellectual commons" of the humanities. Research goes on at every level, from undergraduate and graduate to postdoctoral and faculty. In 2005, the Center was one of 10 cultural institutions in the U.S. awarded NEH Challenge Grants. In 2009, Dr. Brownley received the Governor's Award in the Humanities for her work in the liberal arts. (Sponsored by the Provost's Office "Great Scholars" series and Emory College of Arts and Sciences.)
