@gibsonlespaul1320 He said this in an interview himself with a guitar mag. He said he was getting compared to SRV too much so this was one of the things he did to distinguish himself from the legend.

@sodazman that wasn't the reason...and if it was part of it, it wasn't the main reason. Joe's sparkle gold fender strat was the reason. he went to them with the idea of making a signature model and they turned him down. then a little later on they came out with a model modelled after the sparkle strat with a few specific similarities.
think about it. why would anyone change the guitar they've played for years after being compared with another artist. :S

He switched to a Les Paul cause people compared him too much to SRV. The good thing is the Les Paul sounds much better than the Strat imo for his type of Blues Rock.

LOL, strat and LP both got different tones, both great. Joe found his tone through a LP, SRV found his tone through a strat.... and both sounds awesome.
