Over the last thirty years, several thousand kiwis have volunteered their time and skills with the Christian hospital charity, Mercy Ships.
In 1978 the organisation began, with the purchase of a retired oceanliner.
Their current ship, Africa Mercy, was transformed from a Danish ferry boat into a floating hospital capable of performing 7000 surgical operations each year. Shes based in West Africa and serves as the base for providing free medical, dental and community-care in some of the worlds most impoverished places.
Recently in New Zealand to celebrate the 30th anniversary were the founders of Mercy Ships, Don and Deyon Stephens.
What amazing people. So kind and loving.
