the only problem is that it takes a lot to trigger the trap, if you planning on small gain then this would not be ideal.

Simple, but effective. A great trap to make if you live in a high-crime and low-punishment rate country. You could wire this to several six-foot longbows - any intruder would resemble granny's voodoo doll pincushion faster than you could blink.
