World Tipitaka at Univ of Melbourne 2009 : Interviews

"...I am deeply honoured today to be part of this momentous occasion. To think that over a hundred years ago His Majesty King Chulachomklao of Siam had the wisdom to send Tipitaka in Siam script to all the countries in the world, including University of Melbourne. And today, it has been repeated amongst a new generation of people and a new technology, so that the words of Tipitaka will be spread to several generations in the future, in a new enhanced way. It has been an uplifting experience. Thank you so much for inviting me to be part of it."

Dr Wallace Simon, Honorable Consul-General of Thailand, State of Victoria, Australia, thus begins his comment in a short documentary archive of the World Tipitaka Australia 2009.

The World Tipitaka Presentation Ceremony was also joined by members of the University of Melbourne Thai Students Association.

Interviews of students in Australia, former Thai Ambassador to Canberra and patron from Thailand.

Tipitaka Recitation by Siri Petchai, Chairman of Dhamma Society and translation read by Prof Visuddhi Bussayakul, Patron and Fellow of the Royal Institute of Thailand.

In 2009, over 38 leading institutions in 18 countries have been presented with the Roman-script Tipitaka, following the royal gift of Siam-script Tipitaka Edition over a century ago.
