A short documentary film made by Betty Hutchins and Scott Switzer describes the personal experience of Uriel Santiago, one of a group of nine dancers who perform the Dance of the Feather in Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico. Produced by Oaxaca Cultural Navigator LLC for the Oaxaca Documentary Filmmaking Workshop: Visual Storytelling, Jan. 31-Feb. 6, 2009. Instructors: Erica Rothman, Nighlight Productions, Chapel Hill, NC, and Mikel Barton, Durham, NC.

  • Thanks so much for sharing your memories about your childhood. It is good for each of us to recall and value our history and how it adds to who we are today.

  • when i was only 6 years old (living in oaxaca, mexico) my mother signed me up to be part of the dance crew. they literatery trained us like soldiers. we did simple squats, we had to run half a mile, and we rehersaled every day. i usto hate it but now that im older i now realize the meaning of everything i was doing. saludos para mis san pablenos de oaxaca

  • im a former danzante and im not really from teotitlan... i danced for santa anna... but teotitlan has some good dancers... i miss being in danza de la pluma

  • wow...i'm proud to be born and raised in Teotitlan Del Valle.. I'm impatiently waiting to be a danzante...in 2012...this is our culture and the roots of Oaxaca..
