After GLAAD criticized "Glee" for the use of the word "tranny" in an episode I appeared on The Joy Behar Show to discuss that and other issues.

  • @BionicV One person's acceptance of the word does not make it okay. For instance, some gay people are okay with a joking use of the word "faggot." That does not suddenly make the word inoffensive nor does it mean that all gay people are okay with it in such a context.

  • one of my best friends is a female dating an FTM transgendered person, and I say "tranny" around him all the time

it's not offensive if it's not said in a duragatory way

  • The word I would have to agree with not using most for the gay community is "homosexual" not because it is clinical, but because the religious right says instead of gay, as if it is God word for gays as a judgement. So, to mess with their minds I always say, I'm gay not homosexual.

  • I am so in Love with Michelangelo Signorile !

  • that michelangelo guy gave me a woody! sooo fyyyyne!!

  • goddamned language police...

  • I think the word "tranny" is kinda cute, and of all the transexuals I've known through the years, I think they have all used that word.

BTW, who made GLAAD in charge of offensive words? The word "homosexual" is now offensive?

  • Well this is pretty rich comming from someone that took joy in calling someone a bitch more then once but now she wants to defend transgenders from the word tranny.I agree with M.Signorile that the words that can offend should be judged by the context they are used in not just painted with a wide brush that makes them bad.
