you could just glue the little squares to the platform below them. Even better replace them with like a dome shaped thing for more degrees of movement.

Thanks Josh, i was really impatient so I ended up nailing down the squares instead of waiting for the glue we had to dry. It helped out a bit, but the whole mechanism was still jerky so I replaced them with marbles. That made the movement nicer, but removed the arm's ability to stand up straight, so I got confused and started playing with other projects :-). I'll try to put up an update this week.

You know, I've never played with those, although they might be fun to use in order to control each joint separately. My goal for this project, though, is to make something that is human-powered.
