I knew one of these priests quite well. The Church sent him to an internal "rehab" and then reassigned him to a "hospital" posting rather than giving him his own parish again. Later he left the priesthood. The point is that the Church knew what he did and NEVER made any overtures at helping the victim/s...this was in 1985. I even wanted to become a priest, but because I was gay, they refused me...they knew then they had a problem. The Catholic Church is full of lies.

We have people in our family and friends that have been abused by priests. Belief in the Catholic Church is passed down in New England and is so ingrained that most people cannot believe nor want to believe their leaders can do these things. That is what makes me the most angry and feel the most helpless. That we were raised to believe that our souls hung in the balance, and to turn away from the church was to turn away from God. I haven't entered a church in over 10 years.

Religion is not the problem. The catholic church is the richest most powerful CORPORATION on this planet, and their image is everything to them. They will do everything to protect that at any cost, including the cost of abused children. Look at the recent scandal in Europe that is now breaking out. When you are dealing with the catholic church, think corporation first and religion last.

My sympathies goes out to the parents of the victims of the child sexual abuse by catholic priests. If ever anything good is to come out of this, it is for parents to take seriously the safety of their children with regards the dangers of potential sexual molestation by not just catholic priests, but also any non-family member. Therefore, never, ever leave them alone with these people, however trustworthy they may appear.
