Gadolinium158 is right sulfuric acid does not occur in concentrations that are harmful from amd. the highest concentrations in nature come from volcanic areas such as yellowstone national park. even with these pools of sulfuric acid there is still plant and animal life flourishing around. Plus the owners of the mine are not dumb enough to cut corners and allow large concentrations into waterways. As far as the demonstration goes, concentrated sulfuric acid will never naturally touch pure sugar.

obviously concentrations this high wouldnt enter the streams but what he is saying is that any sulfuric acid entering streams and natural areas is damaging. No sulfide mine has not damaged the environment!

These people have no idea what they are talking about. Sulfuric acid cannot possibly exist in such concentrations in AMD. Yes, sulfuric AMD will have an effect on local rivers if not controlled, but if a mine is operated responsibly, the environmental consequences will be minor.
