It's about this space mercenary and bounty hunter if i remember right. Gene Starwind and his partner Jim Hawking run starwind and hawking enterprises doing any odd job they can get.

Eventually they get a job from some woman that ends up changing the rest of their lives as they end up traveling to the ends of the galaxy on one of the bests ships ever made- the outlaw star looking for the answer to certain mysteries and the legend of the Galactic Layline.
