Antinous (Ἀντίνοος), eromenos/lover of Roman Emperor Publius Aelius Hadrianus (Hadrian) and God of Egypt, Greece and the Rome and of Homosexual Love between men. After Antinous' death in 130CE, Emperor Hardian proclaimed him a God. Cities were founded in Antinous' name, medals struck with his effigy, and statues erected to him in all parts of the empire. Temples were built for his worship in Bithynia, Mantineia in Arcadia, and Athens, festivals celebrated in his honour and oracles delivered in his name. The city of Antinopolis or Antinoe was founded on the ruins of Besa near where he died in the Nile River and rose from the dead as Antinous Osiris.
