Detained at 9/11 Memorial

We were detained at the 9/11 memorial because of the shirts that we were wearing. The cops told us that they were providing us with a police escort to go to a seperate entrance for our safety.. I told them that I wanted to waive my right to be secured by them and I would rather go inside the memorial and take my chances.. They then decided to detain us instead. The cops blatantly lied to us, and then said we wouldn't be able to leave the area until we changed our shirts.. Where is the freedom of expression in this country? Do we have ANY civil liberties anymore?
