  • spear road is actually a roxbury town road. it may be classified as a trail, so it is a public ROW. there is pastureland on eitherside which has been wrecked by off roaders. your apology is welcome and accepted. peace, brother.

  • I think your right. Last time i went all the way down that trail in 07, the only spot were the trail split off in that direction was chained and burmed. I think an ATV could still get by, but no bigger rigs.

  • spear road is off cram hill road in west brookfield. people clean up other people's messes on green up day. the class 4 roads are being ruined from the masses of off road vehicles. they will wash out, even to off roaders. the old mail route is disintegrating. why not continue to make your own roads on private land and let the historic roads survive so hikers, horseback riders and others who enjoy peace and quiet can enjoy a class 4 road. i was almost dumped from my horse on cram hill from atv's

  • Man that sucks, and I am sorry. We all have to learn to share, and to clean up after the idiots that ruin the trails for the rest of us.

Personally, I can't stand ATV's. Seems like most of the folks that drive them go Mach 5 and have no respect for the trails or other users of them.

You could always work with your towns to get the roads delisted, but then it would be illeagal to use them even on horse back or on foot. Do you have hand written permission to use Spear Road?

  • great way to tear up historic roads. makes it impossible to hike or ride horseback. way to go necks!

  • We are also currently trying to plan some trail cleanups around the area. On green up day we will be doing some work on the roads down around Mt Cushman in Rochester, and if we can coordinate properly with Roxbury, Cram hill was going to be another one, since in its current state, no one besides maybe mountian bikes, can make it through that.

  • @necksdontkickbutt *Walking* on a class 4 road isn't hiking. Maybe if people like you weren't actively working against allowing us places to go in the state forest there would be less wheelers on this trail. We have just as much right to the public land as you.

PS I think saw your son tearing ass down route 7. Maybe we should close that road too, since a few people misuse it? Or maybe you should just move back to MA.

  • It's all about the motto tread lightly. If people keep wrecking these roads we will have no where to go

  • I don't think spear is accessible now. it was gated on cram hill on the w. brookfield side and the entrance to spear hs a berm and a big ditch. maybe now even a locked chain.

  • I have never been on Spear road. I always check the Vermont GIS road maps before I attempt new roads. I can't even find it on any of these sites so I would not be on that trail, but Cram Hill is, which means as long as I am obeying the law, I have every right to be on that road.

Our club does not allow for drinking on a trail ride, or trespassing on private land if we know about it. Were not perfect and sometimes miss the signs. Please don't confuss us with "Mudheads" as you put it.

  • I have been on the trails in Roxbury and experianced the "thril" of having bullets fly over my head. We had passed a passanger car parked at the trail head, and suspect that was who was firing the guns, but they were gone when we got back.
