The Bestselling author James Ellroy takes a look at some of Hollywood's most nihilistically notorious crimes from the 50's. • I loved this show! His voice was a put on! It was for effect. I can get some people didn't like it, but it provided some kind of sick levity to the serious topics on the few shows that were aired. And for people calling him a "perv"....well, remember people, his mother was killed when he was a young boy. So he has issues. But he never killed or raped anyone! His dark humor is most likely a defense mechanism.

This man is highly respected by a lot of detectives for a reason...b/c he cares!

  • Only part I didnt like was the animated dog , other than that I liked it.

  • So, apparently I am not the only one who thinks that James Ellroy's LA: City of Demons is about as entertaining as a root canal.

The delivery of his narrative is so over wrought and annoyingly reliant on old-school colloquial expressions that it makes me want to watch Jerry Springer just to remind me things could be worse.

  • It would've been a great show, but to sit through it and listen to his annoying voice was just torture. I can't begin to tell you how irritating he was.

  • @Mitsy1212 Yeah, whoever approved this show for TV should be fired.

  • @rgz1985 The show had to be in the top 5 worst shows on Discovery. Ellroy is a perv and his narration was like nails on a chalk board. If you go to the Discovery ID chat forum, you'll see that a good number of people feel the same way. He was horrible as a host. I read that the show is getting the ax which is good.

  • No squares tag along. It's off the air, now they can air more network reruns. Cable is as chickenshit as the rest of the US media. Maybe ID will give Nancy 'Hang 'em High' Grace a show.

  • I thought this might be an Okay show to watch but it FUCKING SUCKS. James Ellroy voices fails on so many level. So annoying!!! It is like the only show I will not watch on Discovery ID. I bet it gets canceled soon!

  • @hypnotistcollecter honestly, it is impossible for me or anyone in my house to watch it. not even hard to watch ut literally impossible. we gave up on the show 15 mins into the first episode:(

  • You know, it is not so much the "mentally challenged" part that bugs me, but the fact that he is so d@mn dramatic. And that animated dog? Seriously? The use of words like "all you hep cats out there" is also kind of embarrassing. I am bummed, because the show looks so good! The advertising department did an excellent job. ;)

But, I agree, Ellroy should just have "snippets" of the show, rather than the whole thing narrated by him. Dominick Dunne is NOT!

It is extremely hard to watch.
