The neighborhood racoons and opossums cannot get their little paws on my cats food now. Score one for me and mankind. Starring Shakey the cat. Been real happy with the autopetfeeder with digital timer. But, the bigger animals knocked it over and also chewed the front cap dispenser and could reach in for a tasty meal every night...so I had to take action. Crude but effective use of old plywood box .laying around.

  • True... its a California weather design.

The main problem is the Coons breaking into the feeder supply jar. The cats can eat during the day just fine but the coons etc attack the feeder at night. They chew through the plastic and destroy the feeder. So now I can leave on vacation for a week or so and feel comfortable that the feeder is still in tact. The coons could always overturn the feeder and also reach into it with their little hands. This simple design prevents that.

  • So, to fill it you have to dismantle the lid (nuts, bolts, etc.). That wouldn't do someone in the snowbelt much good when it is covered up with snow. Even so, the cats, 'coons, and 'possum STILL all get to eat the food since it falls into a food-catcher. What exactly is 'coon and 'possum proof about it?

  • It is a very smart way, thank you for sharing!
