  • And where is "Reverend" Harmon's charity for lesbian and gay folk?

  • Christ asks his followers to sell all they have and give the money to the poor. Why aren't you bible-thumping literalists having a garage sale??? Why aren't you assholes infuriated about the dying, starving children with flies up their nose instead of sitting on your pompous thrones pretending to know the mind of God. You must be really bored.

  • I should think that pride would be his first sin. Being puffed up and full of himself and thinking he's so wonderful and so righteous and so sin-free. Puh-leeeze.

  • This is really going to be low, but come on - I thought gluttony was a sin too. People like Harmon apparently enjoy throwing stones at other people while not tending to his own sin. Scripture also tells us, repeatedly, that to judge another is not our job - that's up to God. We are not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. But if he wants to munch on those apples, well, God gave him free will too, so....

  • We all know the gay issue, whether in church or not, is just a smokescreen, engineered to distract us from the real issues that people are now waking up to and is something that all people, gay or straight, have in common: the fact that our federal govt and corporate America have been raping the working class for the last 30-40 years, regardless of who we sleep with. And the 99% are waking up to this truth. Aleluia!

  • @ddelray Hiding. He's scared to death. He's afraid to step outside a tiny little box.

  • Indeed, they still to this day continue to bluster and kvetch in the Oceanian, Asian, Latin American, and African provinces but they don't make good on their threats. God willing, they'll come to their senses and realize that the allowance of the ordination of a single gay bishop and the electing of a female primate are no reason to split the already small communion.

  • Well, as I write this in March of 2009, looks like TEC made the right choice. We took the risk of the gospel rather than capitulate to the threats and ultimatums of tyrants. And, it's not 'boredom' henrymoses2. Some Christians choose to fight over human sexuality in general or homosexuality in particular because it's too scary or overwhelming to tend to the poor. Either way, shame on them!

  • When charity finds someone fallen into a pit, it helps them get out, it doesn't tell them that the pit is just fine to live in, and that the community must be sure to be inclusive of all pit-dwellers. The power to get out of the pit is very good news!

I wonder what Susan Russell understands as the "gospel" she piously appeals to?
