Hallo, und willkommen auf das neu Klaustrophobic German!

Hello, and welcome to the new Klaustrophobic German. I spent some time working on improving my lessons, and now, here we are, with shorter lessons, making it easier to learn German.

Today, were going to learn a few cognates. Cognates are words that exist in two different languages, and mean the same thing in both languages, just pronounced a little differently.

Lets get started right away. How about we start with nouns? I encourage you to repeat the words as I say them.

We have:

der Arm
der Bandit
die Bank
die Basis
die Butter
die Emotion
der Finger
die Garage
die Hand
das Hotel
die Inspiration
der Moment
das Museum
der Name
die Nation
die Olive
die Orange
das Photo (das Foto)
das Problem
die Religion
das Restaurant
die Rose
der Service
das Signal
der Sport
die Statue
das System
das Taxi
der Tiger
der Tunnel
and lastly, der Wind

Now, as Im sure you noticed, there was a word in front of each noun, either der, die or das. Those are called articles. In English, nouns dont have genders, so the definite article is always the. However, in German, articles indicate the gender of the noun- der for masculine, die for feminine and das for neuter.
Theres no rule or trick to help you remember the gender of a noun-you just have to remember-and its important you do.

Now, lets move on to adjectives. Theres no articles to remember, so they should be easier to learn. Dont forget to repeat them as I say them.

We have

blind
elegant
emotional
international
irrational
modern
parallel
and lastly, wild.

See, that wasnt so hard!
However, thats all we have for today. I hope you learned something today.
If youd like to leave a comment or suggestion, please send them to my email address, takemetotokio@rocketmail.com , and dont forget to tell me your name and where youre from.
Thanks for listening!
